An upgraded version of our incredibly popular SCOUT inflatable float design, this small but tough float is designed with coastline dives in mind - and our 2022 upgrade packs in some extra features to make this GENERATION 2 design a must for the shore diving bag, punching well above its weight!

This 90cm long float is light, buoyant, easy to transport and incredibly durable for its size, weighing less than a snorkel at an insane 330 grams yet packing in 18 litres of air capacity at 12-15 PSI - and featuring plenty of rings, loops and straps with which to carry critical equipment in the water.

The SCOUT GEN 2 float can be easily deflated and rolled up to fit into a dive bag, cray bag, foot pocket or even the hood of your wetsuit on long rock hops. When you get to your spot you can lay it out quickly and easily blow it up through the oral inflator to around 12-15 PSI. The mouth inflator also features teeth grips to make it easier to inflate – especially in the water.

The SCOUT GEN 2 float’s ‘torpedo’ shape is aerodynamically engineered to offer reduced drag in the water, enabling maximum efficiency for the spearo, reducing exertion from dragging heavy floats and improving overall dive time.

In detail:

Material Construction – Tough and Durable:

  • Made from tough and durable 210 denier nylon TPU-coated material, the SCOUT GEN 2 is puncture and abrasion resistant against rocks, coral reef, barnacles and even oyster beds. The material of the original SCOUT GEN 1 float performed better than our expectations and was very hardy, so we have retained this great feature.
  • The material has a tear strength at over 150kg, with reinforced seams and stitching at all crucial pressure points.

Safety - High Vis Colours:

  • A huge component of spearfishing is safety, and the SCOUT GEN 2 float comes in three high-vis colours that stand out on the water to grab attention quickly and warn fellow water users there is a diver in the water – especially boat and jetski pilots.
  • Available in high-vis RED, PINK and GREEN/YELLOW, each SCOUT GEN 2 colour also features reflective pigmentation so that lights shining on them in low-light conditions make them more visible.

Safety – Dive Flag:

  • Every SCOUT GEN 2 float comes with a 20cm square, nylon, double-stitched blue and white safety dive flag on a 26cm tapered plastic flagpole.
  • The pole comes with two drilled holes for pinning the flag to the pole if desired.
  • The flag base is secured onto the float via a plastic housing that will keep the flag upright in all dive conditions, using heavy-duty stitching and welded seams to prevent any tears or punctures should it be caught or twisted.
  • Note that a Dive Flag is legally required here in Australia as well as many countries around the world.

The Ocean Workhorse – With Improved Carrying Capacity:

  • Floats are not just used to warn others you are in the water, they are workhorses that can help carry items to keep your hands free and your mind focusing on the hunt.
  • The SCOUT GEN 2 float can be used to:
  1. Attach to your speargun via a float line (sold separately) in case you drop your gun or have it pulled from your hands;
  2. Carry your catch in a bag attached to the float;
  3. Carry spare back-up guns and/or shafts.
  4. Carry a spare weight to both keep the float on the water surface and have as a safety spare.

Carry Loops and Velcro Straps:

  • Two large, 13cm-wide black nylon bands (top and bottom) for the attachment of a water bottle, flares, cray gauge, first aid kit etc.
    • The top loop doubles to conceal/secure the inflation valve.
    • The underside loop incorporates a special pouch pocket sized for a 1kg belt weight to keep the float on the water’s surface in high winds.
  • A single heavy-duty, black nylon D-ring is positioned up-front in a reinforced section to attach a float line, gun and a fish stringer. (Not included.)
  • Four black nylon D-rings, (two each side) to offer additional attachment points and options.
  • Two strong, durable webbing handles on each side are great for catching your breath or just to hold onto while you relax on the surface, plus an additional handle on the rear of the float.
  • Two webbing straps underneath each feature three velcro straps designed to hold up to three spare back-up spearguns, each in their own loop.

Inflation:

  • The SCOUT GEN 2 float has a user-friendly oral inflation valve, which is secured on top of the float under the top nylon band. It can be easily inflated before use then deflated after use and stowed conveniently by rolling it up.
  • The inflation valve comes with teeth grooves which allows you to push down with your teeth whilst inflating the float, avoiding having to use hands whilst inflating. Additionally, the valve has a screw lock to secure it in place when inflated, avoiding accidental deflation.
  • The float has an 18-litre air capacity at 12-15 PSI.
  • NOTE: Never use a commercial high-pressure pump, like those found at petrol/gas stations, to inflate the float. This can burst the float and will void the warranty.

SUMMARY - Why do I need a float?

  • A float is one of the most important safety items used by a diver or spearo. A float ensures:
  1. Safety FIRST - that you are seen by other boats and divers, helping to avoid accidents.
  2. So that the captain aboard your own boat knows where you are at all times and can watch over your dive.
  3. Shore-based observers or fishermen can see there is a diver in the water.
  4. That you do not lose your fish or your gun if you lose grip of your gun for any reason. The gun is attached to your float so recovery is not an issue.
  5. That you have something to hold on to and rest upon if you are fatigued from swimming.
  6. That you have a place for storing extra equipment like a backup gun, safety flares or catch bags.
